What Training do I need?
Here's a rundown on the differences between all the training sessions:
New Leader Essentials - prevents an overview of the core elements of Scouting, including the BSA's Mission, aims and methods. It provides leaders a look at available resources. Leaders will get a clear understanding of Scouting's expectations of adult leadership.
Cub Scout Leader Specific Training - for all Cub Scout Leaders, Assistants, Webelos Leaders, Assistant Webelos Leaders, Pack Committee Members, Cubmasters, Assistant Cubmasters and any interested parents. This course will give you an understanding of the responsibilities of a leadership position and the secretes of running a successful program filled with ENTHUSIASM!
OWL Training (Outdoor Webelos Leader Training) - specifically designed to give you the skills you need to be a GREAT Webelos Leader! Not only will you experience fun, hands-on activities relating to Forester, Geologist, Naturalist, and Outdoorsman Webelos pins, but you will also learn about planning overnight campouts, site/tent selection, bedding/weather, cooking/sanitation, fire building, knots, ropes, woods tools and first aid. You also meet new friends and laugh a lot. Leaders leave this training with excitement for the Webelos Program and lots of ideas to utilize with their Webelos Patrol. This training occurs mostly outdoors.
BALOO (Basic Adult Leader Outdoor Orientation) - BSA requires each Pack to have at least one person trained in BALOO to participate in any Pack or Den outdoor activities. It is designed to help Cub Scout Leaders learn the following: Basic camping skills, campsite selection methods, planning techniques, easy cooking skills and other outdoor skills needed to conduct successful and SAFE outdoor activities appropriate for Cub Scouts.
